What is a Globe Valve and how does it work?
What is a Globe Valve?

Globe valves are valves that can adjust the amount of fluid within the system as needed. but not suitable for use with low pressure Because the structure has to change the flow direction. Globe valves are suitable for applications that require multiple valve openings and closings. because it has high durability
How does the globe valve work?

The working characteristic is that the valve can be rotated to open or close, which will cause the valve valve to move up or down in the direction toward the valve seat. The liquid flowing through the valve body will have many turns causing the pressure of the liquid to drop. This makes it possible to control the amount of flow.
Globe valve components

- Body is the valve body or the outer casing of the valve.
- Discs are movable barriers within the Body to stabilize or control the flow.
- The bonnet is the part of the sleeve where the stem acts as a barrier and seals the stem or valve body cover. The bonnet is typically screwed in or secured to the body.
- Handle to manually control the valve from outside the valve body
- Gaskets are a type of gasket or seal. that fills gaps between surfaces Two or more surfaces are fully tight to prevent gas or liquid leakage from the valve. under compression
- Port is a passage through which fluid flows through the valve. obstructed by Disc to control the flow. Most valves have 2 ports or more than 2 ports.
How many types of globe valves are there?
There are 2 main types of globe valves and will be subdivided according to each type.
1. Single Port Globe Valve
Types of Single Port Globe Valve can be further divided into three types. according to the characteristics of the disc

1.1 Composition Disc
- The materials used are rubber, fiber or composite materials.
- Commonly used with hot water, cold water, acid, alkali applications.
- Resistant to chemical corrosion
- less resistance to flow
1.2 Conventional Disc
- Materials used to make are galvanized steel, stainless steel, brach, stainless steel.
- Strong, easy on-off
- Can be closed tightly, there is less chance of leakage.
- Commonly used for work with high temperatures. The valve face, disc and seat are welded with a special hard metal wire (Satellite), while the body is made of stainless steel material.
- Fairly good flow control
1.3 Taper plug or Needle Valve
- The materials used are plated steel, satellite steel, stainless steel.
- There is a lot of sealing area.
- Popular with the type fine adjustment work High pressure work with low flow volume and flow control applications that require high accuracy
2. Double-Port Globe Valve

- This type of valve has 2 sets of seats so that the packing does not have to be subjected to high pressure when closing.
- The use of this type of valve must be highly meticulous. Because it is difficult to grind, it is difficult to repair and if it is closed too tightly, it may leak easily. This type of valve will be used for lightening or adjusting control only. Do not use it as a cut-off valve.
- There is a pressure balance between the two ports, so the smaller the valve, the actuator must be finely adjusted. In the case of changing the shape of the Plug, the condition and the amount of flow will be different.
- Designed to open quickly (Quick Opening), which is not suitable for lightening or adjusting. And the flow rate is proportional to the opening (Linear), but with high temperature and pressure work, the Plug tends to crack easily due to improper shape and thus is a weak point.
